"From the living fountain of instinct flows everything that is creative; hence the unconscious is not merely conditioned by history, but is the very source of the creative impulse." ~Carl Jung
This statement by Carl Jung embodies the source of all of my artwork. I have often said that I "feel" my way through a piece, allowing my instincts to lead me to a completed work. It is this reliance on instinct that permits my emotions to permeate through my art. My work reflects my state of mind and my emotions, as well as my reactions to events surrounding me. Even my most recent works, portraits inspired by photographs, evoke strong emotions through both the subject and intense contrasts between light and shadow. Often, I create my work to express emotions that I cannot put into words, or to uncover hidden parts of myself, too frightening to explore openly. My artwork deals with many issues personal to me: love, life, death, family, self doubt, faith, fear. It is my hope that others will see the courage of personal exploration within my work, and perhaps be challenged to focus inward. I want to continue to explore and grow as an artist, a woman, and a human; to see the world through the eyes of one guided by her heart. "I must see new things and investigate them. I want to taste dark water and see crackling trees and wild winds." ~Egon Schiele
